Deeded to the city in 1879, the small green parcel that is Brighton Park measures 150 by 500 feet. The Fountain of Light at its center was a gift from the General Electric Company in 1929 on the 50th anniversary of the invention of the incandescent light bulb and the 75th anniversary of the founding of Atlantic City.

Brighton Park is the only public park to front on the Boardwalk. The fountain is notable as one of the few public amenities of its type in the beachfront district.

After Years of marginal operation, the restoration work (scheduled for summer of 2007) will return the fountain to its original functional grandeur.
