| FIRM PRINCIPAL AND PRESERVATION ARCHITECT | |
Michael Calafati is a principal of Historic Building Architects, LLC, Trenton, NJ, established in 2000. Projects include: Allentown Public Library, Allentown, NJ; Design Standards for the Atlantic City Boardwalk (CRDA); J.F. Peto House and Studio, Island Heights, NJ; Van Horne House, Bridgewater, NJ; Abraham Staats House, South Bound Brook, NJ; Church of the Presidents, Long Branch, NJ; Kennedy-Martin-Stelle Farmstead, Bernards Township, NJ; Franklin Street School, Cape May, NJ; State & National Register Nomination for Saint Peter’s-by-the-Sea, Cape May Point, NJ. Mr. Calafati previously served as Historic Architect for the New Jersey Historic Trust, Trenton, NJ. A semi-autonomous entity of the State of New Jersey, the Trust provided nearly $60 million in public construction funding to historic sites throughout New Jersey in the 1990s. As the Trust’s staff Architect, the negotiation, review and approval of project scopes, budgets, schedules, consultants, planning documents contract documents, contractors, and the quality of completed work was central to Mr. Calafati’s position. All projects are in the public realm as only other governmental agencies and non-profit organizations are eligible to receive Trust funds. (Visit the NJHT at www.njht.org) Mr. Calafati also worked as a Project Manager, John Milner Architects, Inc., Chadds Ford, PA. Mr. Milner’s firm is well known and highly regarded for the restoration and replication of vernacular and high style architecture of the Brandywine River Valley and Southeastern Pennsylvania. As project manager, Mr. Calafati participated in the design development, contract preparation and construction administration of the restoration and adaptation of several large single-family residences. |
